"Don't think that WoTLK Classic Gold it's going to be only one thing," Danuser says. "There's stories that are brewing for the next epic book that will be part of the World of Warcraft saga. Some of the foundations for that book are set, but there's a lot more going on in Azeroth that we'll need to go back to, as well as dive into the stories and characters there."

There is certainly plenty of tales to tell on Azeroth. Only a handful in World of Warcraft 's major characters, including Anduin, Sylvanas, Tyrande, and Bolvar Fordragon, played some part in Shadowlands The storyline, therefore an opportunity to revisit Azeroth and all the characters that didn't go on to the different realms of the afterlife would make perfect sense.

Danuser's comments line up with what he himself stated in the recent developer preview for WoW's forthcoming patch 9.2. In the video, Danuser said that Shadowlands as the conclusion of one specific book in the World of Warcraft saga, and also that his team is already at work to write the book that will follow.

While new expansion announcements typically occur during Blizzard's annual BlizzCon event, next year's conference has been cancelled. Blizzard declared that it is looking to dedicate the time and funds that typically go into putting on BlizzCon into its diverse development teams. The decision to pull the event is part of the ongoing fallout concerning ongoing sexual harassment and discrimination investigations aimed at Activision Blizzard.

Patch 9.2. Eternity's End, could be the final version of the content for Shadowlands which will see players face the expansion's biggest-bad Jailer as he seeks to breach the Sepulcher of the First Ones and rewrite the rules of creation. The patch will introduce an entirely new zone, raid, and the return of Tier sets based on class and cheap WoTLK Gold Tier sets, but it isn't set to have an announcement date.
