We support people by helping them identify their goals and innate strengths and build resilience to overcome challenges. We help them find accommodation and employment, and address their health and wellbeing needs. Here are the community features offered for an carefree and energetic life.
Brisbane City Council
Brisbane City Council is the local government authority for the Brisbane City area. It is governed by a five-member elected council and is responsible for the City’s budget, administration, urban planning, finance, public services, environmental management, and business services. It also oversees the City’s parks, gardens and wetlands. Councillors are elected for four-year terms and are members of Council’s ten Standing Committees, which consider specific policy issues. The chair of each Standing Committee is also a member of the council’s Establishment and Coordination Committee, known as Civic Cabinet. Councillors may be elected as a mayor or deputy mayor, and are able to serve in any of the City’s ten wards.
The City of Brisbane offers a range of events, activities, and classes for the community. These include the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, Council libraries, and Riverstage, which hosts a range of local, national and international music concerts each year. In addition, the City has tennis courts, public art trails, and a range of other facilities.
Whether you are looking to learn how to live sustainably or just want to get out and exercise, there are a number of free events and workshops for you to enjoy. From gardening and worm farming workshops to community cinema, there is sure to be something for everyone.
Logan City Council
The city’s community is thriving, with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Residents enjoy a cosmopolitan urban lifestyle and the convenience of weekend getaways, including beach and rural retreats. Brisbane’s subtropical climate, pristine beaches and friendly locals make it one of Australia’s most popular cities.
The Council’s functions are largely concerned with the planning, delivery and management of services, works, facilities and infrastructure within its area of responsibility. Its decisions are based on collective decision making by members, known as Councillors. The Councillor’s role is similar to that of a member of a Board, with its decision making power confined to collective resolutions passed at formal meetings. Councillors may also be appointed to subcommittees.
In addition to providing community facilities, Logan City Council aims to protect and manage biodiversity in areas of natural value and foster regional tourism. It also works with local communities to create events that contribute to social and economic development.
It also works with vulnerable people to help them find accommodation and work; overcome addictions; and access health and welfare services. Its flagship program is 3rd Space Brisbane, a drop-in centre that provides practical support and friendship to homeless people in the city. It is a not-for-profit organisation that responds to human need by loving service; seeks to transform unjust structures of society; challenges violence of every kind; and pursues peace and reconciliation.
Ipswich City Council
The Ipswich City Council is a local government organisation. Its functions are to govern, provide services and promote the community interest in its area of responsibility. The council is governed by the Local Government Act 2009 and other relevant legislation. It also has policies, which guide its activities and decision making processes. These are required by legislation and are set out in Council’s strategic direction documents such as Advance Ipswich.
Council’s policies are statements of principles and values that guide Council’s decision making. They are in place to ensure Council complies with its legislative requirements and achieves outcomes that meet the community’s needs, as stated in Council’s strategic direction documents such as the Advance Ipswich plan. Council’s policies are reviewed regularly.
Ipswich City Council is committed to supporting the aims of its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. This commitment is reflected in the Ipswich City Council Indigenous Accord 2020 – 2025, which includes ensuring culturally appropriate human resources processes are used. To support this, Council has an Indigenous working group which represents the voice of its employees.
The Ipswich City Council’s work experience program offers students the opportunity to learn about a variety of jobs in council. Placements are available in professional, technical, administrative and outdoor areas. The program is guided by the Education (Work Experience) Act 1996 and Council’s work experience policy.
