Thursday 23th April a news of over 600 dead broke out in Kano. The news seems to bothered some citizens of Nigeria which resulted them to raised questions till date.
One among many others who are under the siege of fear that COVID-19 could be the cause of over 600 people that assumed to have died in Kano State brought to his tweeter account, and he said, "Over 600 mysterious deaths reported in Kano over the last 7 days ,COVID 19 death figure is less than 50 nationwide and because their tradition/religion says they must be buried within 24 hours after death the deceased families are refusing autopsy Naija which way" ?...Dehkunle of Africa.
While in an occasion after the news broke out, Sani Aliyu, who heads the country's COVID-19 task force, said a government team was collating "verbal autopsies" to determine whether the deaths were linked to the epidemic.
He said "We don't have a true baseline when it comes to the number of deaths. It's something we need to investigate quite closely," he noted during a briefing with the World Heath Organization that "It may not necessarily be COVID."
He continues, "a week-long lockdown in Kano state, which was extended this week, had limited citizens' access to clinics for other ailments, while the state's coronavirus testing lab was closed after staff became infected with the virus".
He added "the government was working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to disinfect the lab and reopen it".
