Visiting the Colosseum at night is the only activity more thrilling than taking the Colosseum tour.
The Roman Colosseum invites tourists to explore its historic spaces after dark for a limited number of months each year.
It's a magical experience: beneath the charm of Rome's summer sky, visitors visiting the Colosseum are transported into a different era while learning about the history of this amazing structure from a knowledgeable local guide.
There are lots of amazing spots where you can get a surreal view of the Colosseum at night. Here is a list of places where you should be in case you are taking the Colosseum tour at night:
- Via Nicola Salvi
You may find route Nicola Salvi (named for the sculptor who created, among other things, the Trevi Fountain) and an intersecting street called Via Degli Annibaldi on the northern side of the Colosseum, roughly above the Metro stop. You have a number of various vantage points from which to take some fantastic pictures of the Colosseum from this region.
- Vittorino da Feltre Avenue
When you visit the streets around Nicola Salvi and Via Degli Annibali, you can enjoy the best perspective of the Colosseum from its fuller side.
- A small footbridge that spans the congested Via Degli Annibali
- Even though there might be some traffic blocking your view from this bridge, it's still a good spot to obtain a lovely picture and photo of the Colosseum.
- Colle Oppio Park/Giardinetto di Monte Oppio
The "Giardinetto di Monte Oppio," a little park that has been depressingly vacant for years, is located close to the streets mentioned above. The Colosseum makes for a stunning view at dusk because it is just after the lights have turned on but before the sun sets.
- Temple of Venus and Roma
You can get this great perspective of the Colosseum from the Northwest side of the Temple of Venus and Roma, which was newly rebuilt and is very stunning and worth a visit by itself! You can see the Colosseum's two sides, one with and one without the outer wall, from this strategic location just in front of the temples of Venus and Roma in the Roman Forum.
Whether this is your first time taking the Colosseum Underground tour or not, it is highly advised that you try to get a ticket for a nighttime visit because it will be an unforgettable experience. Travel safe!
