Safety problems of speed and road regulations of electric bicycle
Some safety issues surrounding electric bikes for adults are related to the lack of road laws related to electric bikes for adults. This may be because they are a fairly new vehicle classification.
Depending on the motor used, an electric bike for adults can reach 30 miles per hour (or 48 kilometers per hour). One of the dangers of road rules, especially in China, is that cyclists who use electric bikes for adults usually still use bicycle lanes, which is more likely to violate the road rules.
Due to the faster speed and motorized nature of electric bikes for adults, they travel faster than traditional bicycles and pedestrians, which increases the possibility of accidents.
In North America, Brian Paterson, chairman of the Ontario Safety Alliance, said: "I think that when the discussion about electric bikes for adults (about possible regulations) started about seven years ago, today's speed level or this type of vehicle was not foreseen.
Patterson's concern seems to stem from the fact that the popularity of electric bicycles is far faster than Ontario's laws can keep up. Their accessibility, such as not requiring a license to manipulate them, is an argument, because there is no screening process for who is driving them.
However, a major positive factor is that the growing popularity of electric bikes for adults has brought a very real ability, that is, pollution and traffic problems (especially in cities suffering from car congestion) can be reduced exponentially.
