Unskippable advertisements return to NBA 2K, fans angry The NBA 2K series is taking criticism for the re-emergence of unskippable NBA 2K22 MT, loading-screen advertisements that appear in the main game. Over the weekend, Stevivor posted that an ad for Oculus ran before the regular "episode" of NBA 2KTV that precedes the game's loading in any of NBA 2K21's various modes. Users are forced to view the entire ad, because it doesn't ask them to change their lineups during the game loading.

Monday morning Polygon made use of the Xbox One game to search for ads that cannot be skipped. They were not found in MyCareer, MyTeam or any of the Play Now matchups. It's possible that the issue only affects specific regions or versions, or that 2K Sports already nixed the advertisements during the weekend ruckus. We've spoken to an 2K representative to clarify the issue.

Stevivor stated that the ads were appearing on both NBA 2K21's PC and PlayStation 4 versions. NBA 2K20 started showing unskippable ads on Halloween last year. NBA 2K19 tried these ads during the summer months following its launch, around the time when it was put up for sale at a 97% discount. Both caused backlash that eventually faded away.

It's not a new thing to see ads in games, and it's definitely not fake billboards or real-life sponsors Buy NBA 2K MT Coins. Madden NFL 10 started with it on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by incorporating pre-game advertisements for Snickers more than 10 years earlier.
