The Benefits Of Empowering Women

Women suffering under patriarchal systems makes evident that a change is needed. The stated benefits show why empowering women is necessary.

Two-thirds of illiterate adults worldwide are women.

According to this fact, millions of women miss the chance to lead a better life or build a successful career as they fail to acquire an education. In comparison, a smaller percentage of men worldwide face similar challenges.

The disparity indicates the compromised position where women currently stand. Room for improvement is present. Therefore, a positive change can only occur worldwide if women's empowerment receives priority.

Here are some of the benefits of empowering women.

Decrease in Gender Discrimination

Women are frequent victims of domestic violence, subjected to forced marriages and harassment.

The data suggest that the prevalence of patriarchy leads to women being looked down on by men. They become victims of derogatory opinions and violence.

As gender is perceived to be in a hierarchal distribution, a majority feels comfortable discriminating against gender minorities. Therefore, society grows increasingly unsafe for women as gender-based crimes continue to rise with no prevention measures.

Empowering women means not regarding them as an inferior group and promoting the development of the female population in all aspects of life.

There will be an evident decrease in cases of harassment, and women will be able to seek justice against hate crimes committed against them.

Equal Representation of Genders in Politics

The system or framework followed by any state is a creation of that region's government.

The government's power allows them to influence other vital institutes such as the legal system/ judiciary. However, patriarchy only limits politics to men.

Due to this, there is no inclusivity or equal representation of genders in governments. As women are not present to voice the concerns of their gender, a majority of policies created favor men.

Lack of equal representation in the government sets a poor example for the state, which becomes acceptable practice, further strengthening the practice to include only a minority of women in institutes. As a result, women are part of many systems mainly for diversity rather than having authority or power.

Women Openly Express Their Capabilities

A damaging aspect of limitations against women is that it has formed a stigma around female identity.

The dominant population regards women as fitting for caretaking roles and raising children. The patriarchal mindset undermines their ability as creative and hardworking individuals and mostly limits them to positions where they have little freedom or resources.

Therefore, perceiving women as a gender that should be dependable on men for support and security becomes the norm.

Empowering women would provide the gender with the support they need as creative individuals. They will be able to express their talents and capabilities openly.

The positive change would emerge in the form of women being part of a much more diverse set of career opportunities than before and an evident rise in businesses and companies led by women.

To Conclude

Women's empowerment is necessary for today's age if we wish to improve the position of women globally. It will allow women to voice their concerns and become a more significant part of society where they can contribute globally to the world's progress.

However, it is necessary to empower women to the extent that it erases the disparity and creates equality rather than overturning the system. The consequences of the latter are explored in The Prison of Power: A Man-Made Tale by G Michael Smith, a fictional story set in a matriarchal world. The book revolves around a society where women have all political power, with men reduced to the role of inferiors.

Read the story to learn if the dystopian world is destructive or the solution to a patriarchal world.
