CHARLOTTE, N.C. As long as Duke football coach David Cutcliffe is in a setting where he's answering questions, he will be asked about the Manning brothers. Then he'll proceed to share stories about the two and how he can relate them to his current team.Why wouldnt he? As Peyton's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Tenne see and Elis head coach at Mi si sippi, Cutcliffe has maintained relationships with the two that have lasted the length of their pro careers. The brothers began coming to Duke in 2013 to work out with their own receivers leading into OTAs. Peyton has made appearances in Durham even after retiring in 2016.Its crazy to see, they bring their receivers and stuff. If you work hard enough and you listen to the some of the things they have to say, hopefully, you'll get to that point, Duke junior linebacker Joe Giles-Harris said at the ACC Kickoff event Wednesday. "It takes a lot and seeing them and hearing their stories, it's inspiring."ACC PREDICTIONS: The quarterback Cutcliffe is currently grooming has had the keys to Duke's offense for two years. Daniel Jones, a redshirt junior, has been a starter since his Andre Dawson Jersey freshman season, and he became a team captain last year as a sophomore.With his 6-5, 220-pound frame and steady demeanor, its easy to understand why hes on NFL scouts' radar, but he also completed just 56.7 percent of his pa ses in 2017 and threw just 14 touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions."I think that probably he was injured more than people think, is part of it,"Cutcliffe said Javier Baez Jersey . I think another part of it was that when you get behindand you start trying to make plays, youre going to force balls. He's got to get away from that.But like any quarterback guru, Cutcliffe is defensive about his guy."I feel great about having Daniel. Daniel has had to face adversity. Hes been hit more than a quarterback should have to be hit," Cutcliffe said. "Its not deterred his preparation, his spirit, his leadership nor his confidence in his teammates. Were going to see the best Daniel Jones weve seen yet. I told him, 'OK, if you know it, then you have to alter what youre doing, us the same.'If everything youre doing has to be 2.4, 2.5 (seconds) and under, OK, you know it. Find out what the amount of time we can get is and make it enough time.On top of the spring visits, Jones has benefited from consecutive summers as a counselor for the Manning Pa sing Academy at Nicholls (La.) State.Knowing that Jones was going to be there, Cutcliffe asked the Mannings to offer more pointers beyond what can be done in the pocket.I think probably what (Jones) gains is not physical, its mental work, Cutcliffe said. We mention all the time training from the neck up, what you have to do to be succe sful in that regard. Eli's going through something very similar."I had great conversations with Eli about, you know, its not easy. Its not supposed to be easy to be the quarterback, Cutcliffe said. "There's a lot of accolades that go withit, but its not supposed to be easy. But you got a certain set of things you believe in and you dont waver from. Im excited for Eli."Jones has been perhaps the biggest beneficiary of the relationship between the Mannings and Cutcliffe because he's learning from all three simultaneously, and he's confident the relationship won't end when he goes pro, whether it be next spring or in 2020.Its awesome to watch those guys work and watch Coach Cut kind of coach them. "Peyton was back this year, he wasnt throwing but he was out there coaching and some of those conversations with him and Eli, its a huge opportunity for me to learn in my own preparation and how I approach the game."The trio gives Jones more perks than a quarterback could ever ask for while in college, but thats not why he refuses to look ahead to a Justin Grimm Jersey pro career.I think thats huge, its certainly my dream and something Id strive to do, but I think the more immediate goal and what my minds more focused on now is doing everything I can to help this team get ready for camp and into the first game, he said. My preparation to that and kind of what I pulled from the Mannings and preparation to camp is what I think is most relevant, and most important to me right now."When Cutcliffe was informed of Jonescalmly answering questions about being under Peyton and Eli's tutelage, he did enough gushing for the two of them.Daniel's even-keeled about everything. I'm not even-keeled about it. I think it's awesome, Cutcliffe said. I think that it solidifies what we, as coaches, try to preach and teach, that commitment makes a difference, that hard work makes a difference, that extra work makes a difference, that you've never seen enough film, that nobody has. I haven't, and my eyes bleed sometimes."But that's the mentality of (Peyton and Eli). When young people hear those guys say it, not just their old coach, Im the one jacked up when they come, believe me."
