When the day comes thatNBA commi sioner Adam Silver officially announces the leagues decision to alter its policy regarding eligibility for its player draft it's coming it will be a maneuver that makes headlines acro s the nation.Alot of those organizations will certainly publish some iteration of the following fake news: Silver announces death of one-and-done.But Silver will do no such thing.MORE: Trae Young proved that one-and-done wont be dead, ESPN college basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla told Sporting News. He went to college with the idea of being a two-year player, and he wound up playing so well he became the fifth pick in the draft.Silver has indicated the league soon will remove the Doug Flutie Jersey rule that requires athletes to be 19 years old and a year removed from high school graduation before entering the draft. So the NBA will remove the current age limit, allowing players to enter the draft as they approach their high school graduations. That will not end one-and-done, though, because players still will be rolling into college, playing a single year and entering the draft at season's end.How that will affect the health of college basketball is difficult to project.We don't know the extent to which players will choose to enter the draft after a single NCAA season, in part because we do not know to what extent players will skip past college after the rule is changed. But we can examine recent history to get an idea how common and disruptive to the college game it might become.In the past five years, 69 players entered the draft following a single college season. Of those players, 38 ranked as consensus top-10 prospects coming out of high school. Another eight ranked between 11-15, seven from 16-20 and 16 20th or lower. Nearly half of all one-and-dones were players who, as they arrived on campus, fell into the categories of unlikely or no chance to leave after one season.Such players as Zaire Smith of Texas Tech, Lauri Markkanen of Arizona, Zach Collins of Gonzaga and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Kentucky were not expected to Buffalo Bills T Shirts be one-and-done. None became a sophomore, though.There are not going to be as many guys ready, said recruiting analyst Evan Daniels of 247Sports. If you show promise and you show upside, theres going to be guys that want to go. There are going to be plenty of guys going one-and-done. I think that tips the scales in my mind.All the Commi sion did by pursuing this misguided agenda is move the goalposts. If you get rid of one-and-done and guys can go from high school, I dont know that it fixes the problem.
