Pregnant Dog Care

Pregnancy is difficult for dogs in general. A little awareness among loving pet parents will make it easier for fur moms.

During pregnancy it is advised that your pooch gets flea, worm and parasite vaccination. These vaccinations cannot be given at home without a doctor. Try to give your dog as less medicines as possible. Medicines have a harmful effect on the unborn puppies.

Pregnancy in dogs lasts approximately 63 to 65 days. The birthing process of pregnant dogs is called whelping. Get your pet examined by the vet atlest three weeks before whelping to ensure the health of both mother, and puppies.

Build a birthing space in your house, bring big cardboard boxes and fill it with soft and clean cloth. Place the box in the area where your dog sleeps. During contractions place food and water bows inside the box. Rub the belly of your dog gently to relieve some pain. Get them a lot of pets and attention.

New mothers are not always comfortable with their puppies being taken from them, but they like to showoff their kids. Keep your distance from the puppies for sometime and gently approach them when your pooch is comfortable with it. Consult your vet about the puppies and once all of this is done, you can play with the puppies all you want.

Always good idea to book a session with a groomer near me for dogs.
