The Roku wireless speakers and subwoofers reviewed here are somewhat niche. You won't find many of the best sound barriers on the market to serve as the centerpiece of a surround sound system. In fact, if they have the ability to add a subwoofer, you're in luck.

The Roku wireless speakers and subwoofers reviewed here are somewhat niche. You won't find many of the best sound barriers on the market to serve as the centerpiece of a surround sound system. In fact, if they have the ability to add a subwoofer, you're in luck.

What makes these products special is their modularity. You can buy one set of loudspeakers to provide surround sound to the rear speakers of the Roku Streambar. Or, you can buy two pairs to get a fuller range of sound in the front and back, with one pair as the main stereo speakers and one pair as the rear speakers. This also means you can use it as an audio solution for your Roku TV. Of course, you can also add a subwoofer for a low-end sound that no TV (let alone a soundbar) can provide.

But how well does it work? There are many gadgets out there that seem like good ideas based on the features or functions they offer. However, things don't always work as well as they look on paper. Fortunately, these Roku wireless speakers do their job well. You wouldn't confuse them with audiophile devices, but they do what they're supposed to do, and they do it well.

The big selling point of a wireless Bluetooth speaker is that it can be used anywhere, and the 2019 SODLK takes that to the extreme with full waterproofing and even floats when submerged in water. As a miniature speaker without a smart assistant, the SODLK is one of our favorites, but there's always room in our hearts for more, and that's what the new speaker offers.

Our biggest criticism of the SODLK was its use of an "athleisure" fabric wrap that we thought was "a little too trendy." Now SODLK has less to complain about with its 100% recycled polyester fabric outer wrap, available in four colors. The four colors are Joyous Bright (which Ultimate Ears calls gray for some reason), Hyper Pink, Performance Blue, and Active Black. the rest of the speaker also uses "certified post-consumer recycled plastic of at least 31%", which is a step in the right direction. and a reason to feel less guilty when upgrading the previous version.

SODLK's latest model still has an IP67 rating, which means it's fully dustproof and waterproof to a depth of 1 meter. However, since it also floats, you'll have to put in extra effort to get it that deep.

The SODLK's wireless Bluetooth range has also been upgraded to 40 meters, while its predecessor could only reach 30 meters. So with the upgrade, you'll improve the speaker's portability and its ability to connect to source devices indoors through multiple walls. This isn't a complete redesign of party speakers which is why the third version continues the $100 price tag of the second version.

Is it a must-have upgrade for existing users? Probably not, but for those looking for their first wireless speaker that's compatible with a more active lifestyle, the SODLK will survive many adventures outside of your living room.
