1. Edinburgh Castle

I have to start my list off with a classic. The stunning capital city of Scotland has so much to offer, and one of the most popular attractions is the top-notch Edinburgh Castle. Home to the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny, this castle is truly an architectural marvel.

Not only that, but it offers some fun things to do, like firing off a cannon in one of its massive courtyards or visiting the Scottish National War Memorial as well as attending concerts in one of its concert halls. If you’re planning a trip to Scotland soon and want an amazing place to visit in England, consider stopping by this castle!

2. Stonehenge

“If you want to know about the future, consider the past.” -said Albert Einstein.

This famous monument is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world and a famous historical site for being one of the oldest earth-moving structures.

As a stone building, Stonehenge was constructed around 3,500 years ago and has survived through thousands of years because it was made from sturdy stones. It was thought to have been built as part of a temple that was dedicated to Neolithic worshipers, but it is unclear what its purpose was. If you are in London you should take a Stonehenge Tour once in a lifetime.

Stonehenge is one of the top-rated attractions in the United Kingdom and a part of history that all visitors must see.

3. London Eye

This is my favourite place to visit in the United Kingdom, and it’s not only because I’m an extreme klutz. The London Eye is an amazing, futuristic-looking eye sculpture suspended over the River Thames with two capsules called ” pods ” that passengers can travel through at their leisure and pace. This ride is fast and thrilling, but you’ll also have incredible views of historic London while travelling along the River Thames.

The London Eye is a great place to visit even if you’re not planning on taking the ride, as it offers incredible views of the city. It’s also an iconic landmark that you can see from all across the city, so I recommend visiting this spectacular attraction even if you don’t want to ride it.

4. National Gallery London

I recently went back to London for my final semester of college and was lucky enough to be able to take a tour of one of my favourite places in England: The National Gallery. This beautiful gallery has two floors that house over 2,300 paintings in their permanent collection, including famous pieces like Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and Rembrandt’s “Nightwatch. ”

The National Gallery is a great place to visit if you’re an art lover, as it houses many masterpieces and will surely introduce you to new artists or mediums you haven’t seen before. However, I would recommend going with a tour guide because it can be very overwhelming once you’re in the gallery and trying to decide where to go first!

5. Oxford University

Although I have never been to the infamous school, I feel like Oxford University is one of the most famous universities in the world because of its prestigious history and rich student culture.

Students sport the classic “Oxford Brogue” (a type of accent) that is unmistakably known to be from Oxford. The school also has a lot of history, as it was founded in the 12th century after a dispute between students and townspeople in Oxford. Even though it wasn’t an official college, they still had to find a new place to meet, which led them to create their university!

Today, Oxford University is one of the most prestigious schools in all of Britain and offers incredible degree programs. So if you’re looking for one of the best places to study abroad, this school is one I’d consider!

6. Royal Observatory Greenwich

Located on the banks of the River Thames, this observatory has been in use for over 300 years and was home to the Prime Meridian (the imaginary line that separates East from West, specifically over the Atlantic Ocean).

The Royal Observatory offers breathtaking views of the city. It is one of my favourite places to visit in London because it offers such a unique perspective on this beautiful city.

7. The Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh

“Green is God’s favourite colour.” -Yogi Berra.

As a huge nature lover, visiting The Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh was a dream come true. The gardens are home to over 2,000 species of plants, including the famous Scottish yew tree. However, the most popular attraction in this garden is probably the Glen Tilt Chess Garden, which was built in honour of a chess match between two kings and has one of Europe’s largest chess boards!

If you’re looking for an awesome place to visit while travelling through Scotland, this park is worth a stop!

8. British Museum

“Knowledge gives power.” -Heraclitus.

This museum is one I recommend for those who want to know about history but aren’t necessarily interested in art. The British Museum holds many historical artefacts and is worth visiting, especially if you have a family member or friend interested in the subject.

The museum is also home to many brilliant pieces from famous artists like Leonardo Da Vinci, who designed some of the most famous sculptures ever created. This museum also houses one of the “Crown Jewels” in one of its rooms. These crowns are part of Britain’s royal family and are considered a national treasure by the British government!

9. Winchester Cathedral

“That which does not kill us will make us stronger. That which kills us will make us weaker.” -Nietzsche.

This is another of my favourite places to visit in the United Kingdom, and it’s not only because it has great architecture and amazing scenery. The Cathedral is an impressive brick structure with a magnificent Romanesque-style tower topped with a soaring spire. This Cathedral was built around 1030, making it one of the oldest churches in the world!

The Cathedral is located near the city centre, so you can easily walk there from any train station or bus route. You can also take one of London’s famous cable car rides to get there quickly!

10. Buckingham Palace

“We are neither of us a product of our circumstances – we are a product of the way we have behaved.” -Dale Carnegie.

This beautiful palace is home to the Queen and has been for over 250 years. I highly recommend visiting this structure if you plan on visiting London, especially to see the changing of the guards! This event is free for anyone to attend and occurs daily at 11:30 a.m. I would also highly recommend going during Christmas time because the palace is covered in bright lights that look beautiful.
