For instance, you'll always find your bathroom floor wet which is absolutely dangerous if you have kids at home. You'll never know when they'll lose their balance and accidentally slip. Another inconvenience you can anticipate is the rise of your water consumption and yes, a high water bill. Who would ever want to pay for water that you didn't actually use? Fixing the leak immediately will avoid accidents and unnecessary charges on your utility bill. Here's a DIY guide to help you repair your toilet bowl that leaks from the base.

1. First things, first. Shut off the water supply valve found at the back of your toilet and then flush the tank. Lift the lid off the tank and scoop the remaining water inside. You may also use a sponge to absorb any excess water. Once you're done, detach the water supply lines with the help of your pliers or wrench. This will prevent the tank from filling up while you're working on your toilet.
2. Now check the washers of the toilet located at its base and get rid of their caps with a flathead screwdriver. There are bolts there that secure the toilet bowl to its flange. Carefully remove them, too.
3. When you're done, slowly and cautiously lift the toilet bowl and set it aside. Set it on top of an old towel or clean rags or some pieces of newspapers to avoid cracking the fixture. Store the parts you removed in a safe place because you'll use them later.
4. Scrape the old, worn-out toilet flange using your putty knife. The wax ring must have deteriorated already that's why your toilet leaks. A quick replacement just might do the trick.
5. Place the new wax seal above the flange. Make sure that it is perfectly positioned and centered to avoid leaks.
6. Carefully lift your toilet bowl again and put it on top of the toilet flange. Make sure that all the bolts are properly positioned, too.
7. Put the washers back in place. Attach them on the bolts individually and thread them. Tighten the washers using your wrench. Just remember that you have to press the bowl down to secure the bolts better. Also avoid over tightening them because doing so might crack the base of the toilet.
8. Reconnect the water supply lines and turn the supply valve on. Let the tank get filled up with water then flush it. Check if the leak has been removed.
