"WASD was conceived as a pure illustration of Diablo Immortal being one of the games that is mobile-first," Joe Grubb, Immortal's lead game designer informs us Diablo II Resurrected Items. "In mobile game, you're completely in control of your character, the abilities and skills you have can be activated while moving. It's much smoother to have that interaction."

"Direct control has this immersive quality to it" Fergusson adds. "When you're using mouse-click and you can! It's like you're a benign god floating around your charactersaying, 'go there go there, do this, do this. '"

Diablo Immortal will also feature gamepad support. It was first introduced in Diablo on console in Diablo 3. Fergusson stated that his first experience playing the Diablo 3 version was what got him happy to add the functionality into Diablo 2: Resurrected, and now it'll be available on both the PC and mobile versions Diablo Immortal.
