The developer has set its sights on Gielinor's world as well as RuneScape and plans to launch both a board game and the core book for RS Gold tabletop RPGs in the coming year. The two RPG versions will feature many of the most popular characters and locations, allowing a group of up to five players to challenge classic quests in RuneScape while bringing adventure in Gielinor to life. Jagex Director of Operations Phil Mansell was optimistic about the project and expressed his enthusiasm about Kickstarter. He expressed his excitement over the Kickstarter project "involving communities from RuneScape players," however Steamforged CCO Mat Hart believed the "rich RuneScape universe will be beautifully translated" into a tabletop setting.

RuneScape has been growing significantly since its initial browser-based launch in recent times, with Steamforged's board game as the latest effort by Jagex.
