The developer has set its sights on Gielinor's world as well as RuneScape and plans to launch both a board game and the core book for RS Gold tabletop RPGs in the coming year. Players are able to create and upgrade their equipment, interact with NPCs and tackle numerous side quests inspired by the classic MMORPG. The board game is scheduled to launch through a Kickstarter campaign later in the year. Meanwhile, the main tabletop RPG book will debut in stores.
The tabletop core book RPGs will notably be fully compatible with tabletop RPGs of massive size Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition core books, which allows dungeonmasters to seamlessly incorporate elements from RuneScape into their games.
Jagex Director of Operations Phil Mansell was optimistic about the project and expressed his enthusiasm about Kickstarter. He expressed his excitement over the Kickstarter project "involving communities from RuneScape players," however Steamforged CCO Mat Hart believed the "rich RuneScape universe will be beautifully translated" into a tabletop setting.
RuneScape has been growing significantly since its initial browser-based launch in recent times, with Steamforged's board game as the latest effort by Jagex.
