A group of tumors known as leukemia manifests as an increase in leucocyte levels in the blood and/or bone marrow. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) are the four main kinds of leukemia. Leukemia cells that are predominately present can be mature, as in CLL, or precursor cells from different lineages, as in ALL and AML, or they might be both precursor and mature cells, as in CML. Leukemias can affect people of any age, although distinct kinds have highly diverse age distributions. For example, the ALL is more prevalent in youngsters, whereas AML and CLL are more prevalent in adults.
