The two in the first two rounds.Dustin Johnson returns to the site that broke his heart. Johnson stepped onto the tee box of the 72nd hole with a one-shot lead five years ago,but he lost his tee shot wide right and found himself in one of Whistling Straits' many bunkers. He grounded his club, not realizing it was a sand trap, and received a two-stroke penalty that knocked him out of the playoff, which Martin Kaymer ultimately won.Nestled on the picturesque cliffs of Lake Michigan, Whistling Straits is one of the most scenic courses in America, and is sure to dazzle viewers with its many demanding holes. Here are the top golfers this week: (in order of projected finish)Bubba Watson (World Golf Ranking: 3) Watson finished second last week at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, and he lost in a playoff when the PGA Championship was last at Whistling Straits in 2010. With a win and two second-place finishes in his last five starts, Watson seems to be hitting his stride as the season winds down.Jordan Spieth (2) It seems impo sible to comprehend that a person can be this succe sful at the tender age of 22, but Spieth does the unthinkable nearly every time he tees it up. The Grand Slam is no longer in play, butworld No. 1 is.MORE: Jason Day (5) Day is on a bit of a roll in recent weeks, and seems to have put his . Since mi sing back-to-back cuts at the Players Championship and the Memorial, he hasn't finished outside the top 12 in four starts.Rory McIlroy (1) McIlroy has won two of the last three PGA Championships, though he was in better healthin those efforts. His ankle may still be a bit balky, but it shouldn't take him very long to scrape off the rust.Justin Rose (6) Rose was brutal on the greens Sunday as he . A suming that was a mere anomaly and not an actual J.R. Richard Jersey problem, he should be in contention again this week.Zach Johnson (12) Johnson rallied to an impre sive playoff victory at the Open Championship, showcasing his tremendous wedge game and poise. Even though he now has two major titles on his resume, it still seems as though Johnson is underrated. He finished tied for third here in 2010.Dustin Johnson (8) Johnson is an enigma wrapped in a mystery every time he steps Francisco Liriano Jersey on the first tee. He has the length and accuracy to terrorize most courses, but he seems to have lapses in concentration way too often lately. Luckily for him, his infamous bunker is no longer there.Henrik Stenson (9) Stenson finished tied for sixth last week, which was his first top-10 on tour since the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March. That's way too long for the talented Swede, who to his defense, has been battling a litany of health i sues since the Masters.Rickie Fowler (7) After finishing in the top five of all four majors a year ago, Fowler has struggled in golf's biggest events this year. He finished tied for 12th at Augusta, but mi sed the cut at the U.S. Open and finished in a tie for 30th at St. Andrews. Look for that trend to break this week, as Fowler has looked sharp in his last two starts.LINEMAKERS: Brooks Koepka (20) Koepka hasn't finished outside the top 25 since the Memorial back in June. He also has three top-10s in six starts during that time.Don't look now, but Koepka seems to have figured things out on tour, and could breakthrough in a big way this week.Adam Scott (11) It's been a forgettable year for the former world No. 1. At this time last year, Scott was the second-ranked player in the world and among the favorites to win the PGA Alex Bregman Jersey Championship. But he has only three top-10s this season and is really struggling to make putts as the big switch looms.Martin Kaymer (21) Blink and you might mi s Kaymer's blips of good form in recent seasons, but theuber-talented German does have two majors to his name, including the PGA Championship last held at Whistling Straits.Hideki Matsuyama (15) Matsuyama saw his streak of 11 straight top-25s worldwide snapped when he finished in a tie for 37th last week. The rhythmic swinger has been consistent but unspectacular in recent events. He can make birdies in bunches, though.Shane Lowry (19) Lowry broke through for his last week, but can he do it two weeks in a row? McIlroy did last year. Just saying.Sergio Garcia (10) It's time to consider the po sibility that Garcia will never win a major. We're not inclined to say it's impo sible, but now at 35, he seems to be losing confidence on the grand stage.MORE: Louis Oosthuizen (13) We're starting to think Oosthuizen only tries in the majors. Starting with the Players Championship, here are his finishes in non-majors during that time: T69, MC, WD, MC, T73, T42. Now here are his results in the last two majors: T2, T2.Robert Streb (40) Streb is just bursting for a breakout win. After last week's fifth-place finish, he now has seven top-18s in his last eight starts, as he methodically goes about his busine s no matter what club he's putting with.David Lingmerth (45) Lingmerth hasn't backed away at all since his breakthrough win at the Memorial earlier in the season. In fact, he has three top-sixes in five starts since that career-changing tournament.Danny Lee (57) Lee, like Lingmerth, is enjoying a breakout season.
