The main drawback is 2K MT enormity of the two hubs. Both The City on current-gen and The Neighborhood (a huge cruise ship) in the past generation are filled with activities. But, they can be spread out over an entirely unnecessarily large area.

However, even with skateboards or bicycles players will be spending almost as much time navigating around The City as they do playing basketball. And even though the two hubs at least have attractive styles of art, it still feels like some kind of loss of time.

The excitement in NBA 2K23 doesn't stop with MyCareer. There are updates to MyTeam and the badge system that can be used on cards similar to the badges that are used in other 2K modes for a more extensive selection of lineups and game styles. Additionally, there are modifications for Unlimited as well as Limited Competitive modes.

A new Draft mode, and a new mode called The 100. Sadly, these modes all look sloppy and lack any fresh excitement to the table of competitive play. It's also mainly in these games that the microtransactions which are included in NBA 2K23 really show.

When trying to get into game play in MyCareer without spending money could be a challenge, NBA games and games will at the very least provide an immediate boost to the effort if you do it correctly. In MyTeam, the lack of depth and variety in the competitive modes can make competing against players who have already spent money on packs more difficult. It also makes single-player gameplay more appealing.

It's virtually impossible to play any mode of the latest NBA 2K game without running into microtransactions. 2K23 is no exception.
