It wasn't just the indie developers that refused to get an approval. Major developers such as Take-Two and Ubisoft allowed some games to be removed from the Apple app store as well. As it stands, NBA 2k and Assassin's Creed Identity can't be downloaded through the Apple app store if you're from China. Before the December 31 app purge, an additional 94,000 apps had been removed from the app store, bringing the total losses for 2020 to 140,000 apps.

The Chinese gaming revenues of Apple reached $13 billion between January 2020 to November 2020. It's an increase of 14% over revenues from cheap 2K22 mt buy the year prior. It is unknown how the app store purge will impact Apple's revenues for the remainder of the year and if the developers will take the decision to purchase a licence to allow their apps back into the Chinese market.
