Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa Night NTPT Carbon Watch Review
The case - which consists of three main parts: the case back, the middle part and the bezel - and all other parts (excluding the screws of course) are made of NTPT. This includes the buttons of the chronograph, the large crown of the rubber frame, and even the thin frame of the buttons; they all show a visible pattern of this layered carbon fiber. Everything is meticulously machined, with perfectly uniform edges and recessed or bumped areas cut with laser precision.
Even when looked closely under a magnifying glass or the macro lens of a camera, the tolerances that these parts fit together are beautiful — all the more impressive considering they are made of materials that were originally designed with a completely different field of use in mind. Impressive, where strength and lightness are prioritized over precision in detailed execution.
Oddly enough, even a glance at the watch from further afield makes these fine details shine through. The Richard Mille RM 011 is the closest to a perfectly rendered digital image I've ever worn, and it comes to life in some weird, inexplicable way. The precision with which the parts fit together and how they look (not only in this respect, but on other Richard Milles I've dealt with) seems almost uncanny and shows that they are not only made precise enough to fit only in Work together and function, or look good up close, but be machined with truly incredible precision.

One might argue that from a distance, too much is happening in the design. It might seem like it's trying too hard to impress, and that takes away those little details—but once in the hand (or better: on the wrist), things fall into place.
Of course, this attention to detail is also reflected in the dial itself: the hour and minute hands appear to be milled rather than stamped, which makes them look more high-end than most other skeletonized hands. The cut is sharp, the hands are thick and voluminous, and the alternating treatment of polished edges and grained center sections makes them look as luxurious as one would expect. Despite the skeletonized design and the lack of a traditional dial, legibility is still good — and, to be fair, much better than the pictures suggest.
Instead of a solid lacquered brass dial, the Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa Black Night NTPT uses a sapphire panel, and of course, the pinion of the hands has cutouts. Given the curved profile of the case, the sapphire crystal set in the bezel follows that shape and is also curved, while the sapphire dial inside is completely flat. It sounds and does look fancy; however, placing a curved crystal on top of a flat crystal does look a bit odd at times, making it difficult to tell how the transparency and the layers of the dial work together.
In the center, below the 12 o'clock position is a large almanac jumping date display - a mechanism that only needs to be adjusted at the end of February each year - and a month indicator between 4 and 5 o'clock. What's more interesting is how the two separate chronograph sub-dials work: the sub-dial at 6 o'clock displays both the elapsed hours and minutes, while the sub-dial at 9 o'clock acts as a 60-minute countdown timer. An interesting option, albeit rather fancy, that helps to establish the RM 011's symmetrical design while offering some - minimal - extra functionality instead of the split hour-minute sub-dials that are typical on most chronographs.
The movement that drives most Richard Mille RM 011 watches is the RMAC1 movement, an automatic chronograph movement with an annual calendar made in collaboration with Vaucher Manufacture. What makes it rather unique and rare is the use of not brass but titanium bridges which are bevelled and bevelled by hand - although the high tech look provided by the shape of the parts and their greyscale finish really kills Die every bit of the traditional haute horlogerie vibe. The movement looks great, but it's more of a machine than the nice, shiny polished finish you usually accumulate. If there is one aspect of the RM 011 that I want to see developed, it has to be the movement. It looks impressive, but its almost perfect monochrome color scheme and space-age look make me look a little lifeless (by mechanical standards, that's it).

The RM 011 case measures 50.00mm lug-to-lug (though the design clearly omits this traditional component), is 40mm wide and, thanks to its curved profile, is 16.15mm thick. The strap integration is excellent - but that's not surprising, based on what I've heard from one of ProArt's engineers: how the Richard Mille rubber strap seamlessly integrates into the case took 5 years. As far as wearability goes, their work is worth it, as the lightweight and relatively reasonably sized Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa Black Night NTPT Carbon fits snugly and comfortably on the wrist.
While the rectangular cutouts on the upper part of the strap look cool, they're actually practical too, as they do allow for quite a bit of ventilation and keep my wrists from sweating under the fit of the rubber strap. Needless to say, Richard Mille offers this strap in a variety of colors - which may make buyers want a quick strap release system that allows them to easily switch between straps without using a special screwdriver, Or even worse, bring their watches into boutiques.
So what can the Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa Black Night NTPT offer those who are constantly seeking the ultimate from those modern brands that are constantly pushing the envelope of design and technology? This NTPT iteration is an unexpected - in other words, novel - development of the established RM 011 series. It uses an attractive lightweight new material that offers some unique aesthetic properties and should prove to be very durable in the long run. It is matched by the usual characteristics of Richard Mille watches: a complicated movement, excellent wearing comfort.
